Coordinates
This is the first entry about coordinates. In this chapter we shall be exploring coordinates. We shall be looking at how to read and plot coordinates then we shall continue further to look at shapes and patterns in connection with coordinates.
Look at the grid below and the point marked with a red cross.
We can describe the point marked with a red cross as 4 up and 3 across starting at the dot at the bottom left right corner of the grid.
Here is another grid with a red cross.
In plain English we can describe the point shown on the grid above from the bottom corner as 3 across and 3 down.
Above we can see that while describing the marked we always start from the bottom left corner. We first went across first then up. Here is another grid, this time we’re going to find the coordinates of the marked grid.
We can see that the point is 4 across and 3 up. The general coordinate of this point is;
Treasure map
Here is a treasure map with places. We can find the coordinates of the locations shown on this treasure map;
For example we can see that;
Hill is (4,1)
Treasure is (2, 1)
Town is (2, 5)
Coordinate patterns
We can draw patterns on the grid using coordinates for example; Here is a straight line pattern;
The first four points coordinates are (2, 0), (3, 1), (4, 2), (5, 3)
Here is a square drawn on the grid using patterns. Each point has been labelled with a coordinate at which that labelled point lies.
Other examples of patterns and coordinates follow.
Hope this chapter helped. 😉
