Multiplying by 10

This chapter explores how to multiply by 10. This is a very simple chapter and you’ll find that multiplying by 10 is very simple.
Suppose we wanted to multiply 2 by 10. First we would arrange the numbers like the following.
Multiplying by 10-01
First we multiply 2 by zero and get;
Multiplying by 10-13
…and then multiply 2 by 1 as shown below.
Multiplying by 10-02
Above we see that when you multiply 10 by 2 the answer is 10.
Suppose we wanted to multiply 66 by 10. First we would arrange the numbers like the following.
Multiplying by 10-03
First we multiply 0 by 6 to get 0.
Multiplying by 10-04
Then multiply 6 by the other zero as shown below;
Multiplying by 10-05
In the next column we place an extra zero as shown below.
Multiplying by 10-06
Then we multiply 1 by 6 as shown below.
Multiplying by 10-07
Then we multiply 1 by the other 6 and get 6 as shown below.
Multiplying by 10-08
As we see above when you multiply 66 by 10 you get 660.

Dividing

Dividing is the opposite of multiplying. Suppose we wanted to divide 640 by 10.
Multiplying by 10-09
When dividing by 10 you simply count one decimal place in the number to be divided by for example;
Multiplying by 10-10
…or you could simply cancel when you have zero at the end.
Multiplying by 10-11
That gives 64. So; 640 divided by 10 is 64.
Multiplying by 10-12
