Mean

In statistics mean is defined as the average of the total of the numbers in the data. The mean of data is the total of all the data divided by the number of items in that data.

Finding Mean

Here is an example to work with to find the mean;

In the above data if we count it the number of items we get 10 items. So we add that data and divide by how many items there as the following;

The mean in the above data is 7.3

Formula to find the mean

n is the number of items in the collected data.
x This simply represents each item in the data
Σ This is the Greek letter Sigma which means sum or add, so in this case Σx means total of the values of x.
SYMBOL is the symbol for the mean.
Let’s find the mean of the above data in conjunction with this formula.

The mean result is the same as using the formula.
That’s how you find the mean value of a data set. It’s that simple.
