Representation and summary of data notes

This document contains useful notes about representation and summary of data. The notes here may be useful when working with ranges, quartiles, percentiles and deviation.

• The range of a set of data is the difference between the highest and lowest value in the set of data.
• Quartiles Q₁, Q₂, Q₃, Q₄ may be used to split data into four parts. Divide n by 4 to work out the lower quartile Q₁,
• For discrete data for the lower quartile, Q₁, divide n by 4. To calculate the upper quartile divide n by 4 and multiply by 3.
