Reciprocal Numbers

In general the reciprocal of any number is one divided by that number. That is;

Example

For example the reciprocal of 8 is;

Similarly the reciprocal of 2/3 is;




You might also think this way. A number is a reciprocal of another if their product is 1, for example;

…since…

You might have noticed that the reciprocal of a fraction number can be found by inverting the fraction. That is replacing the numerator with the denominator and vice verse.

    Knowledge of reciprocal of a fraction is very very useful to divide fractions. If kids want to learn dividing fractions, they have to learn finding reciprocal of the given fractions. As to convert division of fractions to multiplication we need to find the reciprocal of the divisor fraction.
